No Gartenzwerg Zone
Summer 2018 in Cologne: I sat with friends in the garden and told them how annoying it can be to have a very, very long garden and that is why I wanted to build a tool shed in the garden. The evening ended with the idea to add a shed somewhere in the middle. Coincidentally, the two of them had one left that I could have. Unfortunately, it was one of those Spißer hardware store houses that the typical German garden gnome matched. I didn’t want both of them in my garden. So the whole house was turned into a shed with a little more let’s say “grandeur”.

Lack of spirit
I actually liked the basic structure of the house pretty much. Likewise the classic triangular pediment, the flat sloping roof and the large centrally seated door.
However, this shed had no charm at all and looked absolutely arbitrary. The door was in the middle, but had two asymmetrical leaves. The triangular pediment had the right shape, but didn’t work because of the overhanging roof.
Since the shed had a more classic shape overall, I decided to emphasize it more.
Change
First I cut one of the door leaves shorter to have two leaves of the same width. I covered the corners with pilasters. This emphasizes the tectonics and is essential for a classic design..

Classical Order
Thanks to the modular components, it was easy to modify the individual elements. In this way, I was able to cover the triangular pediment with a cornice and insert an architrave between the gable and the pilaster.
